Silver Gelatin PrintsHand Printed By Michael
It is rare for someone who has spent the last 50 years criss-crossing the globe photographing everyone from Abba to Zappa, to continue to print all his black & white images in his own darkroom. But this is what Michael loves doing, having learnt his craft from master printers at the age of 16 when he started working in a busy basement darkroom in Pimlico, London.
All Michael’s black & white photographs are hand printed on warmtone, fibre based silver gelatin paper. After exposure, developing and fixing the prints are washed for several hours, air dried and flattened under glass, a process that takes a few days.
Below is a selection of images that have proved popular prints, but given notice Michael is happy to print any of the photographs on his site.
