Silver Gelatin PrintsHand Printed By Michael
It is rare for someone who has spent the last 50 years criss-crossing the globe photographing everyone from Abba to Zappa, to continue to print all his black & white images in his own darkroom. But this is what Michael loves doing, having learnt his craft from master printers at the age of 16 when he started working in a busy basement darkroom in Pimlico, London.
All Michael’s black & white photographs are hand printed and signed on warmtone, fibre based silver gelatin paper. After exposure, developing and fixing the prints are washed for several hours, air dried and flattened under glass, a process that takes a few days.
Below is a selection of images that have proved popular prints, but given notice Michael is happy to print and sign any of the photographs on his site.
